so the recent trend on the blue bird app is to tweet a photo with the caption "sco pa tu mana", and people then quote/reply with opinions regarding whatever that photo is. and i dare say although people do know what this phrase "means", in a way, that its a way to shoutout to others, let them voice opinions, people actually don't reaaaally know the meaning/origin of this phrase.
sums up our generation today.
so basically i did research (of course! the! geek! did!):
there's so many versions to this even im kun-fused.
1) apparently a Ghanaian artist named Patapaa released this song called Daavi Neba. And within the lyrics, there's "sco pa tu mana". And then people attempt to sing his verse which has that iconic 'sco pa tu mana' line = goes viral. (although tbh i have never seen these sco pa tu mana challenges before). basically people are saying that it doesn't even have a meaning, Patapaa just wanted to rhyme with the words? something like that. kunfused? me too.
2) according to Urban Dictionary, the phrase comes from a Zambian word meaning "one should express his or her own opinion on a particular topic or object. simple. less kunfusing.
3) good ol mate, the Google Translate. okay first, there's such a diversity in the spelling of the phrase, so i tried them all:

yeah a bit disappointing, google. but in my 'sco pa tu mana' about 'sco pa tu mana', i'd say what really defined this phrase/the origin of it is twitter. people 'made' this a universal language. people have the natural instinct to know the meaning of this phrase, although not precisely.
now, say thank you, stan twitter for the new language. or maybe not.
